Past Imperfect, Future Tense

So far this blog has lived up to it's name.
It has been calm...introspective perhaps....
Placid.

Here are the first fleeting signs of turbulence.

26 Nov 2008, the city was held at gun-point by masked crusaders of violence.
A year later we continue to lead our own lives, unperturbed, happy to have come out unscathed. We have found comfort by busying ourselves with our daily routines . Candlelight vigils, signature campaigns , silent protests - we rebelled, we retaliated, we staged zealous protests and ignited impassioned discussions about the need for a more responsible bureaucracy and the necessity to fight the faceless monster called terrorism...and then... somewhere along the way, the fizz died down. We have retreated to the warmth of the seemingly rosy present, choosing to pay no heed to the to the nagging memories of a charred past and the tense prospects of an uncertain future.

"The more the things change, the more they remain the same."

Let's send up a quiet prayer for those brave souls who gave up their lives trying to save those of others. Let their sacrifices not go in vain.

Saw 2012.
The sheer magnitude and scale of the envisioned destruction makes you go numb. The breathtakingly-larger-than-life special effects and the eerie interpretation leaves a hole in your heart (and one in your pocket - 300 bucks including popcorn). But the film truly pushes the boundaries of human imagination and technology.
Bollywood has to catch up by leaps and bounds.
A totally paisa-vasool fare this.

Nostalgia

Today is one of those days...

a day of conflicting emotions.

a day of "dunno where my life is headed?" kinda worries.

a day of diffused enthusiasm.

And out of the blue, in the mind sneaks a random scene from the past...the kind that finds one slipping into a smile despite oneself... and suddenly the mind becomes a kaleidoscope of sepia-tinted flashes of the days of yore. 'School' sounds like a word from a time eons ago, yet the memories seem fresh as dew...

Silly antics

Girlie giggles

Secret crushes
Stolen winks

Ambitions harbored

Dreams dreamt

Reality checks

Friends lost

Friends found

Teacher's pet

Teacher's pet peeve

Petty tiffs with pal

Hearts broken

Hearts met

Linkups

Breakups
Makeups

Friendship bands and rakhis

Assemblies and school bells

Slam books and diaries

"Bhatti" and "Hitler"

Golas

Blue and grey uniform

Backstreet Boys fixation

Displaced zeal

Errands run

Long winding corridors

Hot rumors

Hotter gossip

Seething Curiosity

Teen angst

Fluctuating hormones

...

Not a girl

Not yet a woman

...

Dawning maturity

Eager to break free...

..."Soar" higher

On the threshold of adulthood....

...

...

Dealing with

                                                  Conflicting emotions

"Dunno where my life is headed?" kinda worries

      Diffused enthusiasm

...

Ahh... Life comes a full circle

Never knew a trip down memory lane could prove to be a revelation.

Time to celebrate

It's that time of the year...again.

Noisy firecrackers that threaten to burst your eardrums.

Psychedelic lights that play peek-a-boo with you eyes.

Melt-in-the-mouth sweets that first stimulate your sweet buds and then finally lure you into a no-holds-barred saccharine binge

Of hope and warmth
Lights and joy

It's Diwali!!!

The very mention of the festival lifts your spirits in one breath to heaven and life suddenly seems like a bed of roses. Worries are momentarily forgotten, troubles quietly tucked away.

Inhale. Live in the moment. Revel in this new-found diwali-induced high. And let the optimism in the air overwhelm your senses.

It's time to celebrate.

It's diwali.
